Specificity

NBP1-21631 recognises the nucleoprotein of all sub-types (A1, A2, B1 and B2) of hMPV. NBP1-21631 does not cross-react with cell cultures infected with hRSV, influenzaviruses A and B, adenovirus, parainfluenza viruses 1, 2, 3 and 4b, mumps virus, measles virus, varicella-zoster virus, herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, human cytomegalovirus, human herpesvirus type 6, ECHOvirus 19, Coxsachievirus B4, poliovirus types 1-3, HHV6 or uninfected HeLa, MA104, 3MK, LLC-MK, HEp2, MRC-5 and HSB-2 cells. It also does not react with sputum bacteria.

Background: Meta-Pneumovirus

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) was discovered in 2001, and has been identified worldwide. hMPV is a common respiratory pathogen, particularly in infants and young children. The virus is associated with both upper and lower respiratory tract infections and may be a trigger for asthma. At least two major genotypes of hMPV circulate during community outbreaks.

  • Q: What exactly is the nature of the immunogen for this antibody? Is it a purified or isolated protein or a whole virus inoculation? Specifically, I am curious as to whether it is specific for the nucleocapsid protein or some higher order complex.

    A: This antibody was generated by immunization with the whole virus. It recognizes the nucleoprotein of all sub-types (A1, A2, B1 and B2) of hMPV.
