Background: Orexin R1/HCRTR1

OX1R is an Orexin Receptor selective for orexin A. This receptor participates in the feedback mechanism that regulates feeding behavior and sleep. When activated, OX1R stimulates appetite. OX1R has been implicated in narcolepsy, a sleep/wake disorder. Orexin receptor 1 expression has been documented in adrenal and brain. ESTs have been isolated from brain, pancreas, and lung/spleen libraries.
