Background: Plexin C1

Plexin C1, also known by its gene name PLXNC1, is approximately 176kDa and 1,568 amino acids in length. Plexin C1 is localized to the cellular membrane as a transmembrane receptor for the Semaphorins family of proteins. Plexin C1 may be implicated in the regulation of melanocyte adhesion and may be a melanoma tumor suppressor. Current research on Plexin C1 is being performed in relation to several diseases and disorders including Parkinson's disease, leukemia, kidney disease, melanoma, smallpox, prostate cancer, malignant glioma, renal cell carcinoma, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, hepatitis, prostatitis, and pancreatitis. Plexin C1 has also been shown to have interactions with SEMA7A in the axon guidance pathway.
