Background: SCMH1

Polycomb group genes are essential for maintenance of appropriate expression patterns of developmental master regulators, such as Hox genes, and thus are essential for proper development. SCMH1 (Sex comb on midleg homolog 1) is a constituent of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1 complex. The PcG PRC1 complex acts via chromatin remodeling and modification of histones.
