WB: Approx. 50 kDa band observed in human kidney and liver lysates (calculated MW of 56.3 kDa band according to NP_000687.3). The observed molecular weight corresponds to earlier findings with different antibodies from other sources. IHC-P: Human cerebellum shows staining of a few cells between the granular cell layer and the molecular layer of the cerebellum. Please note the unstained Purkinje cell at 10 O'clock.

Background: ALDH9A1

This protein belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family of proteins. It has a high activity for oxidation of gamma-aminobutyraldehyde and other amino aldehydes. The enzyme catalyzes the dehydrogenation of gamma-aminobutyraldehyde to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This isozyme is a tetramer of identical 54-kD subunits.
