Human Properdin, also known as Complement factor P (CFP), is a 53 kDa secreted glycoprotein that exists in plasma as dimers, trimers or tetramers. It a positive regulator of the alternate pathway of complement. Properdin binds to and stabilizes the C3- and C5-convertase enzyme complexes and is thought to connect humoral and cellular immunity. Properdin released from activated neutrophils may play a major role in pattern recognition, whereas plasma properdin may primarily stabilize convertase. Properdin deficiency results in higher susceptibility to bacterial infections. Full-length human Properdin shares 77 % sequence identity with mouse Properdin.

Detection of Human, Mouse, and Rat Properdin by Western Blot.
Western blot shows lysates of human serum, mouse serum, and rat serum. PVDF membrane was probed with 1 µg/mL of Sheep Anti-Human/Mouse/Rat Properdin Antigen Affinity-purified Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # AF8216) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Sheep IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF016). A specific band was detected for Properdin at approximately 53-55 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.
