Background: PTGER1
PTGER1 is a one of four EP1 receptors for PGE2 which is mediated by G(q) proteins. PTGER1 may play a role as an important modulator of renal functions. It has also been detected in mast cells, pulmonary veins, keratinocytes, myometrium and colon smooth muscle. EP1 expression has also frequently been seen in human breast cancers. Nuclear expression of EP1 correlates with good prognosis markers like node negative status and PR expression. Animal model studies have implicated EP1 in various physiological and pathological responses however expression in humans appears to be more limited. EP1 receptor antagonists have been studied clinically primarily to treat hyperalgesia.
