SLPI in Human Lung. SLPI was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of human lung using Goat Anti-Human SLPI Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # AB‑260‑NA) at 15 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C. Tissue was stained using the Anti-Goat HRP-DAB Cell & Tissue Staining Kit (brown; Catalog # CTS008) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific labeling was localized to the connective tissue. View our protocol for Chromogenic IHC Staining of Paraffin-embedded Tissue Sections.

Background: SLPI

Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitor (SLPI) is a protein found in various secretory fluids, including parotid secretions, bronchial, nasal and cervical mucus, and seminal fluid. The protein is a potent inhibitor of a variety of proteolytic enzymes, including the neutrophil proteases, elastase and cathepsin G and the pancreatic proteases chymotrypsin and trypsin. SLPI is an important component of the antiprotease defense of tissues bathed by secretory fluids. It could be used as a therapeutic agent for treatment of the proteolytic damage of tissues seen in degenerative and inflammatory diseases.
