Mouse CD2, also known as LFA-2 and LFA-3 Receptor, is a 55‑66 kDa, variably glycosylated type I transmembrane (TM) protein belonging to the CD2 receptor subset of the Ig superfamily. It is synthesized as a 344 amino acid (aa) precursor that contains a 22 aa signal sequence, a 181 aa extracellular domain (ECD), a 26 aa transmembrane segment, and a proline rich (20%) 115 aa cytoplasmic region. CD2 is found on T and NK cells and binds CD48 in rodents and CD58 in humans. The ECD of mouse CD2 shares 73%, 50% and 44% aa identity with the CD2 ECD in rat, human and equine, respectively.
