Background: Nav1.5

Voltage-gated sodium channesl (VGSCs) mediate regenerative cell membrane depolarization and conduction of electrical signaling in nerves and muscles. Expression is also detected in lymphocytes, glia, and fibroblasts. VGSC proteins are comprised of a core alpha-subunit, together with one or more additional regulatory beta-subunit. Expression has been detected in a number of tumor cell lines and has been implicated in the metastatic behavior of breast and prostate cancer cells.
