Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: DDB1/DCAF16 Complex

DDB1- and CUL4-associated factor 16 (DCAF16) is a putative substrate receptor for an E3 Ubiquitin ligase located in the cell nucleus.  A new class of electrophilic ligand-dependent protein degraders that function through DCAF16 has recently been described.  DCAF16 is a component of DCX (DDB1-CUL4-X-box) ligase complexes that mediate the ubiquitination of numerous target proteins including the transcriptional regulator MEIS2.  This product consists of a FLAG-tagged DDB1 (UniProt Q16531) and His-tagged DCAF16 (Uniprot Q9NXF7).
