INTENDED USE AND DESCRIPTION: For use a quantitative control for the determination of human and NHP IL-5 concentrations in biological fluids. Controls are supplied lyophilized. The product is shipped with polar packs. Upon receipt, store it immediately at the temperature recommended below.

Storage

• Store lyophilized controls at 2-8 °C. Lyophilized controls are stable for up to 12 months from date of receipt.
• Reconstituted controls are stable for up to 6 months from date of preparation when stored at ≤ -70 °C. Storage at -20° C is not recommended.
• Individual frozen aliquots of low and high controls are designed as single-use entities. Thaw directly before use and discard any remaining volume.

Background: IL-5

IL-5 (Interleukin-5) is a secreted cytokine that is expressed as a covalent dimer. It is produced by activated Th2 cells, eosinophils, mast cells, and iNKT cells and promotes eosinophilic and basophilic differentiation and activation. IL-5 signals through a receptor complex containing IL-5 R alpha and the Common beta Chain/CD131 on eosinophils and basophils. Naturally occurring soluble forms of IL-5 R alpha retain the ability to bind IL-5 and limit its bioavailability.
