This family has several receptor subtypes with different pharmacological selectivity, which overlaps in some cases, for various adenosine and uridine nucleotides. P2RY12 is highly expressed in platelets. It is expressed at lower levels in brain. P2RY12 is involved in platelet aggregation. It is a potential target for the treatment of thromboembolisms and other clotting disorders.
