Organelles: Plasma Membrane
Overview
The plasma membrane surrounds the entire cell and serves as an interface between the cell and its environment. Transmembrane or membrane-associated molecules mediate physical contact with other cells, respond to extracellular signals, maintain ionic balance, internalize nutrients, and expel waste products.
Data Examples
Corin in HK2 Human Cell Line. Corin was detected in immersion fixed HK2 human kidney proximal tubule cell line using Rat Anti-Human Corin Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB2209) at 25 µg/mL for 3 hours at room temperature. Cells were stained using the NorthernLights™ 557-conjugated Anti-Rat IgG Secondary Antibody (red; Catalog # NL013) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Specific staining was localized to plasma membranes. View our protocol for Fluorescent ICC Staining of Cells on Coverslips.
CD98 in K562 Human Cell Line. CD98 was detected in immersion fixed K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line using Mouse Anti-Human CD98 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB5920) at 10 µg/mL for 3 hours at room temperature. Cells were stained using the NorthernLights™ 557-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (red; Catalog # NL007) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Specific staining was localized to cell surfaces. View our protocol for Fluorescent ICC Staining of Non-adherent Cells.
Vimentin in HeLa Human Cell Line. Vimentin was detected in formaldehyde fixed HeLa human cervical epithelial carcinoma cell line using Rat Anti-Human/Mouse/Rat Vimentin Biotinylated Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # BAM2105) at 8 µg/mL overnight at 4°C. Cells were stained using the NorthernLights™ 557-conjugated Streptavidin (orange; Catalog # NL999) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Specific staining was localized to intermediate filaments.
