Mouse Lipin 3 is a 94 kDa member of the small Lipin family of nuclear proteins. It is primarily expressed in the GI tract and may play a role in DAG production or membrane synthesis. Lipin 3 is 848 amino acids (aa) in length. It shows conserved N- and C-terminal domains that flank an NLS between aa 135‑144. Lipin 3 has modest phosphatidate phosphatase activity. Two potential isoforms exist; one shows a deletion of aa 507‑537, while the other shows a 10 aa insertion between Glu 506 and Ser 507. Over aa 428‑549, mouse Lipin 3 shares 84% and 96% aa sequence identity with human and rat Lipin 3, respectively.
