Background: Integrin alpha 6/CD49f

The Integrin alpha 6 subunit, also known as CD49f and VLA-6 alpha subunit, forms a heterodimer with Integrin beta 1 (CD29) or beta 4 (CD104) subunits. Integrin alpha 6 beta 1 is a receptor for laminin. Integrin alpha 6 beta 4 is also a receptor for laminin and is a structural component of hemidesmosomes in stratified epithelia.
