5HT2C is a 45 kDa 7TM receptor for serotonin and is neuronally expressed in the limbic system of the brain. The release of dopamine due to 5HT2C ligation regulates mood, appetite, and motivation. 5HT2C is an important pharmacologic target in the treatment of psychosis, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and migrane headaches. Multiple isoforms of 5HT2C can be generated by RNA editing. Human 5HT2C shares 89% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat 5HT2C.

Detection of 5‑HT2C in HEK293/h5HT2C/eGFP transfectants vs irrelevant transfectants by Flow Cytometry
HEK293/h5HT2C/eGFP transfectants (A) vs irrelevant transfectants (B) were stained with Mouse Anti-Human 5‑HT2C Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # mab5764) and eGFP isotype control antibody (Catalog # MAB003) followed by Allophycocyanin-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # F0101B). 5HT2C in Human Brain.
5HT2C was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of human brain (cortex) using Mouse Anti-Human 5HT2C Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB5764) at 3 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C. Before incubation with the primary antibody, tissue was subjected to heat-induced epitope retrieval using Antigen Retrieval Reagent-Basic (Catalog # CTS013). Tissue was stained using the Anti-Mouse HRP-DAB Cell & Tissue Staining Kit (brown; Catalog # CTS002) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to neuronal cell bodies and processes. View our protocol for Chromogenic IHC Staining of Paraffin-embedded Tissue Sections.
