Mouse Model: Why is it important?

The mouse (Mus musculus) is a valuable animal model for disease research. Mouse models are used both for investigating basic research questions and as a preclinical model to evaluate potential new therapies for cancer, infectious disease, and neurodegenerative diseases. Mice are commonly used to model human disease for several reasons including:

  • They have a short reproductive cycle
  • There are many biologic and genetic similarities to humans
  • Can be genetically engineered to knock out or overexpress genes of interest

Anti-Mouse Primary Antibodies

Anti-mouse primary antibodies are a critical tool for research with mouse models of human physiology and disease, allowing you to answer important research questions about protein expression and cellular function.

No matter the application, Bio-Techne has anti-mouse antibodies to help you answer your research question. We have antibodies validated for use in:

Cytokines, Growth Factors, and Receptors for Mouse Research

Cytokines and growth factors are involved in most biological processes including embryonic development, cell proliferation and survival, inflammation, and disease pathogenesis. It is important to understand the role of cytokines because, depending on the specific context or disease state, these signaling molecules can be either beneficial or harmful to their host. For example, although IFN-gamma helps protect the body against intracellular pathogens, like viruses and intracellular bacteria, it’s pro-inflammatory nature can also exacerbates autoimmune diseases. For over 30 years, R&D Systems has been a leader in the production of recombinant cytokines and growth factors for pre-clinical research. Our antibodies are manufactured using these best-in-class proteins.

Secondary Antibodies for Mouse Research

Secondary antibodies are antibodies that target primary antibodies, such as anti-IgG, anti-IgA, and anti-IgE. They can be specific for the whole Fc region, the heavy chain (H), or the heavy and light chain (H+L). Because multiple secondary antibodies can detect a single primary antibody, using secondary antibodies can increase the sensitivity of an assay.

Bio-Techne’s secondary antibodies are validated in-house for use in Flow CytometryImmunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry, and Western blotting.
