Bio-Techne Launches MimEX™ GI for Accessible 3-D Cell Culturing of the Gastrointestinal Tract
Bio-Techne is proud to announce the release of MimEX GI, a 3-D cell culturing platform for the generation of gastrointestinal tissue.

Human Ascending Colon Tissue Generated Using MimEX GI Reagents and Media.
This new product line utilizes the unique characteristics of adult human gastrointestinal ground state stem cells to generate tissues that are:
- Regionally specific – The distinct cytoarchitectural features of different regions of the gastrointestinal tract are important to the function and dysfunction of the system. MimEX GI enables the isolation and expansion of specific intestinal regions which may provide even more accurate and predictive models for disease and development.
- Maintain disease phenotypes – Pathogenic gastrointestinal tissue processed in the MimEX GI system will isolate adult epithelial stem cells that maintain the disease phenotype when differentiated into tissue in vitro. This allows for easier comparison studies to normal tissue, as well as accessible monitoring of disease development and progression.
- Accessible for drug and toxicology screening – The air-liquid interface culture system of MimEX GI, along with the differentiation media, induces differentiation of a polarized epithelium where the apical surface is fully accessible for experimentation. Researchers can directly add compounds, drugs, or toxins to MimEX GI cultures, making this 3-D culture system ideal for barrier function and drug toxicity studies.
The MimEX GI system consists of specialized media and reagents that allow for the expansion and differentiation of ground-state adult stem cell populations from the gastrointestinal tract.
The MimEX GI platform makes in vivo-like 3-D gastrointestinal tissue broadly accessible to both academic and industrial laboratories, including a licensing program for its use in commercial applications.
